Reginald "Reggie" Frank Doherty and his brother Hugh Laurence "Laurie" Doherty popularized the game of tennis throughout Europe around the turn of the century. They formed the most successful doubles in the world at that time. They were the first European winners of the Davis Cup held in the USA in 1903. They caused a record of 300,000 spectators to the Wimbledon tournament on their return (compared to the 1st tournament in 1877 which drew 200 spectators to the tournament in south London). In 1980, Reginald and Lawrence Doherty were inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The racket comes with beautiful patina.
