Jefferies is one of the oldest and best known companies which made tennis rackets well before the turn of the 20th century.  The exhibit is mentioned in the "Book of Tennis Rackets" of Siegfried Kuebler as follows: "Fantail, Jefferies.  On racket with capital letters J and E. Finely combed Fantail grip, convex heart, 14 oz., Jefferies, London. Estimated 1893."  The fantail handle was introduced in order to give the player a better grip avoiding to slip off.
