The Demon

The Demon was one of the most popular rackets of the time.  The exhibit shown below from around 1895, was re-strung after 1898.  The famous fishtail grip was invented by Slazenger in 1884. 

 

Patent information (reference Siegfried Kuebler): patent no. 226.  British Patent of Jan 1, 1884.  Description: Improvements in handles for bats and other analogous purposes.  This patent shows for the first time a new shape of a handle which is incorporated in the successful models "The Demon" and "Special Demon" which were sold at least until 1928.  Inventor Ralph Slazenger Moss, trading as Slazenger and Sons.
